Day 118: For Social City and Cafe World

Today I am thankful for…

  1. Having some alone time during the whole day where I got to read, browse the internet and relax at my own will.
  1. Not switching the TV on at all the whole day. It just proves that there are other and better ways to spend time than sitting on a couch in front of the idiot box; and they are – sitting on a couch and reading books, sitting on a chair in front of the computer and sometimes even lying down on the couch! :P
  1. Kane and Abel – a wonderful book written by Jeffrey Archer thirty years ago about two men born on the same day in two corners of the world; William Lowell Kane born in Boston, Massachusetts and Baron Abel Rosnovski born in Poland in 1906, how their paths cross and their mission to destroy each other. A very welcome change given the kind of books I was reading before this; the Twilight saga and then Dan Brown Books.
  1. What ma’am said to me today. This is going to be a little in detail, so please bear with me. Ever sine I started teaching with her, she has been training me. Whenever I start with a chapter I haven’t taught before, we sit together after I have prepared myself and present the chapter to her as I would present it in class just so she can give me tips as to how I could explain a concept better, giving me more examples to corroborate my point and telling me what I’m doing wrong and how to rectify it. These sessions have been very helpful because she has years of experience to share with me and I have just started. So anything that’ll ease the burden for me as a newcomer, has always been welcome from my side. One time she told me exactly what question a student would ask when I explained a certain point and how to tackle the questions because let’s face it, sometimes students ask questions just for the sake of argument; just sometimes.
So anyway, I am supposed to start off a new chapter for another batch – Inventory Valuation in Accounts. I studied that about six years ago when I was studying for my foundation level exams (then called PE 1 and now called CPT) and there’s some other professor who to teaches this. Since he is short of time and it is a very simple concept, ma’am asked me if I could teach it and I agreed. So we have scheduled a session for our discussion before I would actually teach it in class and ma’am told me that the other professor would also be there to give me pointers. Ma’am told me that he was worried if I would be okay with it because some teachers don't quite like it when others tell them how to teach even if the person giving advise is a teacher himself. She told me that she told him I was very receptive and open to help and went on to tell me that I am the only one on her staff who was open to suggestions for improvement.

I told her that when teachers with experience for so many years were willing to help me out, how could I not consider their advise or not implement it; especially when I was totally new to this. To this she said that it didn’t matter whether I was new to this or whether I had been doing this for long; it was all a question of what kind of an attitude a person had, that’s all. I didn’t try to be modest anymore and happily accepted the compliments. It meant a lot more to be because she’s the one who has taught me what I am teaching today. So yeah, a very detailed point but totally worth it and needless to say, it made my day!!! :D :D

  1. Social City and Café World – two of the many many virtual life games on Facebook that I absolutely detested the past few months but ended up playing the entire yesterday night and the whole day today, and I’ve got to admit I’m enjoying cooking and serving dishes, and building a city! It’s quite fun.
